18th October – Youthbuild UK Awards 2017

Category: Events, News

We are excited to announce that JBT will be supporting this year’s Young Builder of the Year Awards on Wednesday 18th October, as part of Joe’s ongoing trusteeship with Youthbuild UK.

The YBUK Young Builder of the Year Awards 2016, House of Commons, Westminster, London. 19th October 2016

This prestigious competition has been run by Youthbuild since 2000, with the awards ceremony being held at the House of Commons every October. The awards celebrate the achievements of young people who have overcome personal barriers to succeed in their training for, and/or found employment, in the construction industry. The two categories (ages 14-18 and 18-24) include a prize fund of £7,500 as well as tool vouchers for all finalists.

Not only is this a great financial incentive for young people with ambitions in construction, the competition does a great deal to improving and promoting the image of the industry. Youthbuild do some fantastic grassroots work for disadvantaged and under-represented groups in the sector, including women, LGBT, ethnic minorities and young offenders.

While this years finalists have already been announced, we definitely recommend entering yourself or someone you know for next years competition. Applications open in the summer – usually from May til the end of July – so there is plenty of time to consider applying for the 2018 awards!
