If you’re thinking about starting an apprenticeship in construction, you’re already on the right track. Apprenticeships offer a great way to earn while you learn, gain valuable on-site experience, and work towards recognised qualifications. But how do you choose the right one?
Consider Your Interests and Strengths
Do you enjoy working with your hands? Do you prefer precision tasks or more physical work? Different trades suit different people. Bricklaying, plumbing, electrical, and painting and decorating all have unique demands—choose one that fits your skills and interests.
Think About Location
Most apprenticeships require you to work on-site in your local borough. At JBT, we work with developers who are obligated to hire apprentices from the areas they’re building in. Make sure you’re available to travel to nearby boroughs or willing to wait for a vacancy near you.
Check Entry Requirements
At JBT, we require:
- That you’re at least 18 years old
- That you’ve passed your CSCS test
- That you’ve completed or are in your second year of a construction-related college course
Apply Early and Be Ready
We regularly post new vacancies, but competition can be high. By applying early and getting your name on our system, we can call you as soon as a suitable placement becomes available.
