Hendri came to JBT seeking a construction apprenticeship shortly after completing his Level 3 in Electrical Installation. Following a successful interview, JBT provided him with a full set of hand tools and full PPE. In February 2024 he started on site as an Electrician at the Thames View House redevelopment, with Emersons as the subcontractor.
JBT applied for a levy transfer from The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, who are actively involved in funding resident apprentices via the Government’s Apprentice Pledging Service. This was made possible thanks to the support and guidance provided by Kingston, and the application was approved.
After securing this source of funding, JBT enrolled Hendri with Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge College (HRUC), whom he started with in September. Prior to this, the college advised Hendri on preparatory tasks he could complete onsite prior to his attendance. Hendri ably completed this.
Throughout his time on Thames View House, Hendri’s confidence steadily grew. His manager praised him for his ability as an electrician, describing him as both keen and intelligent. Emersons were happy to extend his placement into 2025.
Since work on Thames View House is nearing completion, Hendri is currently being considered for transfer to Clarion’s Station Road development. JBT has every confidence that Hendri will continue to develop his skills as an Electrician on this new site.
JBT Apprentice Manager Feedback:
When Hendri first started, I could see he was committed as every pre-employment task I gave him was completed in a timely manner. Once on site, he settled in very well with the team and I could see his confidence growing over the months. His attendance, punctuality and performance are exemplary.
RB Emersons Supervisor (Electrical sub-contractor) Feedback:
Hendri is willing to get involved, learn and has a good attitude. I can see he is becoming more confident and can work independently as well as with the team. There is still a lot for Hendri to learn but Emersons will make sure he gets as much exposure to a variety of tasks as he needs.
Hendri’s thoughts:
I enjoy what I am doing, I like being part of the team and am learning a lot working with experienced electricians. I feel comfortable asking questions because I know that I still have a lot to learn. College is going okay, and I am currently preparing for my 18th Edition exam.
Tutor/Assessor Feedback:
Tutor: Hendri has attended all his classes and is punctual. He is engaged during the lesson and can often be the last to leave, so that he can finish his write ups.
Assessor: Hendri performed very well during the last observation and was prepared for my arrival with the evidence I had requested. He should now be familiar with our portfolio platform (OneFile) and knows that if he has any issues/concerns to let us know.
